The Inbound Exchange You can have an exchange student from Tahiti to stay with you for four weeks from Thursday 7 July to Thursday 4 August 2011. It can give your French a real boost. New Zealand host families can pick their student up and farewell them at Auckland airport or at the airport nearest their home. We will arrange and pay for their domestic flights where necessary.
They will expect no special treatment. They will just be a member of your family, going to school with you for the last week of Term 2, spending the July holidays with you then going back to school for three days of the first week after the holidays. They will not need their own room. They expect to share with you – as long as you are of the same gender, of course!
Ask your parents or guardians, then get a permission note to your French teacher as soon as you can. We need to know about offers to host by 13 May.
The Outbound Exchange You can also stay in Tahiti for a month in December-January 2011-2012. It costs under $2500 for everything – for four weeks! If you have hosted someone you will have priority for the outbound exchange and will already know at least one person in Tahiti. The person you hosted will probably host you there.
Details of the December exchange will be posted on our website www.tahitiexchange.org.nz early in Term 3. You can
• improve your French very fast
• make new friends
• travel cheaply
• have a tropical holiday
• learn about a new culture
• see exotic places
• have experiences your friends can only dream of
• get better qualifications results.
The Tahiti Exchange has run yearly since 1965. High school students from Tahiti travel to New Zealand in July and are hosted by schools and families all over the country. New Zealand students go to Tahiti in December. Since the exchange began, New Zealand has hosted its share of over 10,000 students from Tahiti and other islands in French Polynesia.
The Tahiti Exchange is recognised as an exchange programme organisation by the Ministry of Education.
The New Zealand end of the exchange is organised by Rob Grant and Kay Wilson. The Tahiti end by FAPELEC (Fédération des Associations de Parents d'Elèves pour les Echanges Culturels). Contact details are available on the contact us page.
